ACTION

12899431_10154020716169420_1677833886_oCanadian Ocean Racing has partnered with Canadian Wildlife Federation to help bring about a better, cleaner world. We are adhering to and promoting CWF’s Best Practices On The Water, which are guiding principals for environmentally-friendly boating. We know from first hand experience that our oceans are in desperate need of our help. That is why we are taking immediate action to limit our environmental impact on the water and in some cases making a positive impact.

Trash in our oceans is a major problem, so we take every opportunity to clean up trash we find and make sure we are not leaving any behind. It has unfortunately become common practice that offshore sailors throw non-plastic garbage over the side — tin cans, paper and glass. Since adopting CWF’s best practices, we have kept all our trash onboard for proper disposal and recycling when safely ashore.

EDUCATION

Part of the problem that plagues our oceans is a general lack of awareness for the overall issues. COR has set out a commitment to help spread the word and educate the public. We will accomplish this through both social media, and public engagements, with specific focus on the wellbeing of our oceans.

When11144444_525870454235996_6247823177344640771_n onboard, guests are educated to the issues we face and provided with simple solution that can be easily adapted to their everyday lives. Over Winter 2016, COR will visit both schools and yacht clubs all over the country, spreading our message of sustainability along with our adventures from the sea. If you would like us to come visit your school or club please contact us at Info@CanadianOceanRacing.com

Thanks to advances in technology, COR plans to install a new eco-friendly electric motor allowing O Canada to be 100% CO2 emission free. The electric motor and our onboard instruments will be powered by a combination of solar, hydro and wind power. We hope to have reached this goal by 2018 Barcelona World Race. This is a large undertaking as it means replacing our current power and 37hp diesel engine with a completely new system. We are proud to be partnering with Oceanvolt in delivering our new electric engine system.

By following and sailing with COR we will teach and promote our sustainable future. We are looking for partners who share our commitment and would like to partner with us to help improve the health of our oceans.
